The
image of Crazy Horse is a one color serigraph that has been
hand colored to represent Crazy Horse's battle colors. Crazy
Horse was both a spiritual and military leader and when he
rode into battle he used a minimal amount of paint, usually
limiting the paint to his face, shoulders and back, tying
a hawk in his hair.
He is
said to have painted half his face blue with white spots to
represent hail and a lightning bolt on the other side of his
face (some say the lightning bolt was often raining teardrops).
As Crazy Horse never allowed himself to be photographed, I
have taken a great deal of liberty in depicting his face as
I think he would have appeared. This is the reason why half
his face is hidden in shadows.
