Canyon De Muertos: in English – the Canyon of Death, so named because of the ambush and killing of many Native Americans here by the Spanish in the 1600's.

This pastel shows the crags and cliffs of part of Canyon de Chelley and a lone Native figure representing the many that were massacred by the Conquistadors.
