In 1866 Chief Red Cloud (Makhpiya - Luta) orchestrated the most successful war against the United States ever fought by an Indian nation. So successful that by 1868 he had driven the Army out of his people's ancestral home, forced the closure of a strategic fort, and brokered a peace deal with the United States known as the Fort Laramie Treaty.
