"Broken Promises" Card Set

“They made us many promises, more than I can remember, but they kept only one; they promised to take our land, and they did." Chief Red Cloud – Oglala Sioux

“It makes my heart sick when I remember all the good words and all the broken promises.” Chief Joseph – Nez Perce

"BROKEN PROMISES"
Promises made, promises broken.

The history of European contact with the Native Americans is a tale that can be told by the long list of broken treaties, broken promises and agreements left to moulder like the paper they were written on.

This trail of broken promises is a road that has shaped our cultures, both past and present, it is a road that has led us to where we stand today.

While the flag represents many things to American citizens, to Native Americans it represents much more. In the case of “Broken Promises” the horsehair fob beaded to resemble an American flag is a reminder of all the hastily made and equally hastily broken promises made to Native Americans, from that moment of first contact to now.

GaWaNi Pony Boy chose Keith Rosko to create this beautiful print titled "Broken Promises".

Each set contains four 5 1/2" X 7" cards and envelopes on the finest quality matte paper, and are wrapped in a clear package accented with raffia, as shown below.
